Before we get to the details a few reminders:
- Spring Fling will be here before we know it. Last day for registration is February 23. It looks like it will be a great program this year with Michelle Umlauf presenting “Against the Grain".
- Our neighborhood group is responsible for submitting articles for the upcoming newsletter. Please consider writing up a sewing experience you have had, be it a class, project, pattern review etc.
We planned activities for the rest of our monthly meetings:
- July – NO MEETING since our meeting date falls over the 4th of July weekend.
- August – Jelly Roll Rugs and similar projects
- September – Problem solving – bring a sewing problem to the meeting and get everyone’s expert help.
- October – NO MEETING – coincides with the Sewing Expo.
- November - Sewing for the Holidays – bring sewing or other craft ideas for the Holidays
- December – No regular meeting – Holiday Luncheon

Rebecca’s presentation was on constructing a Faux Fly. She learned the technique from tutorials produced by Nancy Zieman and Sandra Betzina.
Use a pattern that has the fly tabs as part of the pattern. They should be at least 1 ½” wide.
Another helpful tip. Use a zipper at least 2” longer than the pattern calls for. That way you can stitch over the zipper at the bottom without having to deal with the zipper stop. The top of the zipper can be cut off as needed at the waistband. This process does away with the under flap fly piece commonly found on jeans. While I can’t summarize all the steps, here are a few pictures.
That’s all for now!

The Japanese haori jacket is fashionable yet timeless; it adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit while paying homage to Japan’s rich cultural heritage.
